Today’s nature club was at the beautiful Guppy Falls location at the Skaneateles Conservation area. The kiddos were very excited to hike the “stairway to heaven” and couldn’t wait to get into the woods. We saw beautiful signs from Mother Nature that spring has indeed sprung!
Kiddos discovered blooming marsh marigolds, trout lilies, and greening May apples, and learned about plants in danger of extinction like the trilliums.
Lots of little creatures were out and about today, too. Kiddos put on their scientific hats and discovered snakes, snails, frogs, salamanders and bugs. They touched the animals and treated them with care, studied them and returned them all to their homes in the woods. Such a built-in beautiful lesson about being respectful of wild creatures.
The forest café was in full swing today as kiddos harvested the freshest greens from the forest floor. Wild edibles like Trout Lilies, Wild Violets, Wood Nettles were taste tested. The fresh green colors of the woods today brought about a feeling and appreciation of peace, renewal and the rebirth of life. We enjoyed a yoga experience beginning as seeds and growing into flowers or trees and mustered up strength from mother earth to become yoga warriors. The highlight of nature yoga today was leaning on our friends for support in a yoga circle. It was said, “If you stand strong you can support your friends in times of need.”
It was indeed another beautiful fun filled experience in the woods today. We look forward to many more with our wonderful OLLers! See you next week!
